Welcome to Digital African Professional, a series spotlighting individuals shaping online conversations, connections, and communities. VR&C Marketing, your trusted partner in digital marketing, communications, and public relations, proudly presents this series.
This edition introduces James Tamba-Martha, a multimedia producer at VR&C Marketing in Sierra Leone. His journey from a young storyteller in Kailahun to an award-winning photographer shows the power of passion, mentorship, and opportunity in shaping a career.

James Tamba-Martha
James’ media career began in secondary school, where he led the dissemination of news and information to his schoolmates on assembly grounds. His passion for storytelling took him from community radio to mainstream media and humanitarian communications. As a producer, reporter, and photographer, he dedicated himself to capturing impactful stories about people and organizations.
His biggest breakthrough came in 2024 when he won the Vickie Remoe Prize for Journalism and New Media in photography. The recognition opened doors, but one opportunity stood out. He got an invitation from Vickie Remoe herself to join her company, VR&C Marketing.
At VR&C, James quickly realized he was entering a new level of storytelling. While he had experience in multimedia, working in a fast-paced digital marketing agency challenged him to refine his craft. With guidance from seasoned professionals like Augustine Kargbo and Vickie Remoe, he elevated his storytelling, photography, and videography skills.
“Initially, I thought I had good photography skills, but it was like starting afresh once I transitioned here. I went through a lot of constructive feedback to meet the company’s standards. I’ve learned more about photography, videography, and storytelling than I ever imagined.”

Beyond technical skills, James values the exposure and dynamic environment of VR&C Marketing. From working with clients across industries to meeting influential figures, his role has broadened his perspective on media and digital marketing.
“The highlight of my work is meeting different people, listening to stories, and producing content that makes an impact. It’s the kind of opportunity young people dream of.”
For James, mentorship has been key to his growth. His one piece of advice for aspiring media professionals is this:
“If you want to grow, don’t put money first. Focus on learning, be willing to take criticism, and put in the effort. That is how you reach the level you want to attain.”
James’ journey proves that young professionals can thrive in their careers with talent, mentorship, and the right platform. As he hones his craft at VR&C Marketing, he represents a new wave of Digital African Professionals redefining multimedia storytelling in Sierra Leone.
