Welcome to “Digital African Professional” a series that spotlights the talented individuals who create content that shapes online conversations, connections, and communities. Presented by VR&C Marketing, your trusted partner for digital marketing, communications and public relations.

In this inaugural edition of Digital African Professional (DAP), we’re thrilled to introduce you to Augustine Momoh Kargbo in Freetown. Augustine Kargbo is a multimedia producer and head of operations at VR&C Marketing in Sierra Leone. Join us as we delve into Augustine’s inspiring journey, from his early days lending a helping hand to his pivotal role in shaping VR&C’s Digital Marketing success.

Many people who become content creators do so intentionally, but Augustine’s journey was anything but straightforward. What started as an HR and admin job gradually became a flourishing career as one of Sierra Leone’s top multimedia producers.

Before Augustine picked up a camera or edited his first video, he was already making an impact at VR&C Marketing. Augustine wasn’t officially on the team in the company’s early years. At the time, he worked for an NGO, but his connection with VR&C Marketing and its Founder, Vickie Remoe, was undeniable. He wasn’t just lending a hand; he was family.

“Whenever I was with the VR&C Marketing team, I felt at home,” Augustine said.

Augustine found himself naturally gravitating towards the team in its formative years, whether it was offering advice, managing staff, or even helping with the company’s paperwork. His contributions were foundational to the start of the company.

“There was a time when Vickie told me she wanted to rent office space. I advised her not to rent a space but to use an already available space in her home. With my construction background, I was confident about making it work. Vickie trusted me, with no questions asked. The estimate was approved, and I started the project right away. That’s how I helped build the office we use today.”

But Augustine’s contributions didn’t end with construction. When he officially became the manager of VR&C Marketing, his curiosity and hunger for growth drove him to pick up new skills, including videography.

“Over the years, we had hired several videographers, but they were unreliable. For example, we once had to meet clients in the provinces, but our videographer showed up late. I realized we needed someone who would be in-house, so I decided to learn the skills myself.”

Determined to fill this gap, Augustine dived headfirst into videography. Leveraging the resources and equipment at the VR&C Marketing office, he put everything he’d learned from YouTube tutorials into practice. He also gained valuable insights from professionals who had worked for the company and received hands-on guidance from Vickie herself.

“One time, Vickie asked if I’d like to lead the team on a UNDP documentary shoot to cover all 12 districts in Sierra Leone. I said yes immediately. I read a lot, watched tutorials, and prepared. After the shoot, I edited the footage and sent it to Vickie. When she told me it was excellent, that’s when I knew I could do the job, and we wouldn’t need to hire a videographer anymore.”

Augustine is now one of the top multimedia producers in Sierra Leone. What started as a role to support the company now sees him creating high-quality content for major organizations like MikashBoks, Make Sierra Leone Famous Podcast, Mercury International, Cotton Tree Medical Group, and De Beers Group

Augustine has also produced multimedia content (photos and videos) for the Irish League of Credit Unions, educational videos with Schools for Salone, and documented the UNDP GEF Small Grant Programme across Sierra Leone. His work continues to shape industries and tell powerful stories.

For Augustine Kargbo, the journey isn’t just about mastering new skills; it’s about the impact of his work.

“The most rewarding part of this journey is seeing the team I’ve helped grow to achieve great things. Leading a multimedia company means a lot for someone with an HR and admin background and shows that everything can be achieved with determination and commitment. It’s proof that the effort and care I put in make a difference.”

Augustine’s commitment to learning and professional development has made him one of the finest Digital African Professionals in Sierra Leone.
