Dr. Yakama Manty Jones: the Yak Jones Foundation and Data Mansah
Five years of PR, digital marketing, photography, video and articles that built a national and pan-African profile for Dr. Jones and her reading foundation.
The challenge
The foundation was largely self-funded and had no communications strategy. It needed more people to know its work, to attract donors, partners and volunteers.
What we did
- Field documentary video, photography and a blog from Moyamba and Kambia (2021)
- Communications strategy built around Adopt-A-Reading Club, a $1,000 annual sponsorship for 17 clubs in two Freetown schools (2022)
- Rollout strategy for the foundation’s learning products: 4,000 packs of alphabet flashcards and puzzles made with the Centre for Memory and Reparations (2026)
- Product photography and promotional materials for institutional bulk sales
- PR and features on SwitSalone across five years: her selection as a 2021 Amujae Leader, her Forty Under 40 Africa nomination, International Women’s Day founder profiles, the foundation’s early-childhood book donations and the kids’ tour of the world’s largest floating library
- Thought leadership on girls’ education, and a speaker slot at the Schools for Salone girls’ education webinar (2026)
- Data Mansah (2022): after the foundation work, Dr. Jones brought us her citizen-data company. We built its foundational brand: a wordmark logo, a brand book with a purple and orange palette, social media templates, and brand messaging with the tagline Information You Can Use
- Launch story for the foundation’s African-inspired flashcards and Sierra Leone landmark puzzles on International Literacy Day 2026
