We are excited to announce that multidisciplinary researcher, cultural strategist, and communications expert, Kobina (Kobby) Ankomah Graham, has joined VR&C Marketing as our Director of Strategic Communications, Influence, and Public Affairs.
With over two decades of experience at the intersection of ideas, culture, and strategy, Kobby brings a rare blend of intellectual depth and creative energy to our team. From breaking a news story that led to the resignation of a Ghanaian Minister of State to serving as the first digital strategist ever hired by the Ghanaian government, his career has been defined by the power of strategic storytelling.
Academic Excellence: Kobby holds an LL.B in Law and an MA in International Studies and Diplomacy from SOAS, University of London, and he is completing a PhD in Sociology at the University of Ghana. Alongside his research, he has taught humanities, culture, and digital literacy at Ashesi University, Webster University, the School for International Training (SIT), the Dikan Center, and the Council on International Education Exchange (CIEE). He was recently invited to guest lecture at Stanford University about the relationship between afrobeats, African identity and Ghana’s political history.
A Global Voice: a 2020 Miles Morland Scholar, Kobby is a recognised public intellectual whose byline has appeared in prestigious global publications including The Guardian, Aperture, Kinfolk & The Africa Report. His work has also been profiled by the BBC and Global Voices, positioning him as a global voice on African culture, politics, and creativity.
Industry Shaper: a pioneer of Ghana’s digital public sphere, Graham served as the country’s first government digital strategist, strengthening the online presence of the Constitution Review Commission. In the private sphere, he established digital protocols for Joy FM now followed by several Ghanaian radio stations, and led research initiatives for The Steadman Group (now IPSOS). As former editor of DUST magazine, he played a key role in documenting Accra’s emergence as a global cultural capital. He currently serves on the board of the Music in Africa Foundation, continuing to shape the continent’s creative economy from a strategic vantage point.
Along the way, his work has been supported by major international grants and fellowships, including a £10,000 Force of Art grant in 2018 from Hivos, the Prince Claus Fund, and the European Cultural Foundation to study how non-profit art spaces transform people and social realities across Ghana, Uganda, and Tanzania; a $75,000 DANIDA Doctoral Scholarship in 2019; the Miles Morland African Writing Scholarship in 2020, and an Africa No Filter grant in 2025.
Culture in Motion
Beyond the boardroom and classroom, Kobby is a cultural researcher, writer, and DJ whose practice bridges knowledge and experience. He began his DJ career in London, including a memorable turn behind the decks for Erykah Badu, before returning to Accra over two decades ago, where he has become a leading figure in the city’s alternative music scene.
Alongside this, he is a prolific writer whose work spans short stories, opinion writing, and cultural reportage, engaging African society, arts, and social issues with clarity and depth.
At VR&C Marketing, Graham will lead high-level communications strategy, public affairs, and thought leadership, ensuring our clients’ stories are not just told but are heard, remembered, and make an impact.
On joining the team, Graham said, “I am excited to join VR&C Marketing at a time when African stories are commanding global attention. I look forward to working with this talented team across the continent to help leaders and institutions harness digital influence, scale purpose-driven work, and position themselves – and Africa – for global impact. I also hope to bring some creativity into the mix.”
Join us in welcoming Kobby Ankomah Graham to the VR&C Marketing team.
